I get the opportunity to talk to a lot of parents of school-aged children, and I can’t even try to count how many of them struggle with math!

  • Maybe helping with math homework has become a struggle.
  • Or choosing a math curriculum has become almost impossible with so many options (if they’re homeschoolers).
  • And parents are always asking, “What’s the deal with NEW MATH?”

In this video, I try to explain how math programs might differ from one another, and suggest what you might look for in examining math curriculum and resources. Many parents ask me, “What math curriculum does Learnwell use?”

Learnwell uses Math Mammoth, which I love. It’s not flashy, but it’s a solid math curriculum with tons of resources. I talk more about choosing the right curriculum for your child in the video. No matter the curriculum, remember that it’s a tool you can use to see if your child is tracking in math concepts or where he may need a refresher.

And, of course, I try to explain “new math” in the video too.

I’m an educator who actually really enjoys math, and I have been stumped by a bar model or two in helping my own children with math!
