    Class Descriptions

    Sept. 15: Classic Games

Kids will learn the rules of age-appropriate card games and board games, then have a chance to play them with friends. Younger kids will play classics like checkers, Trouble, and Crazy 8s, while older kids will learn fast-paced card games like Spades, Hearts, Sushi Go, and strategy-minded board games like Ticket to Ride, Code Names, Settlers of Catan and more.

    Oct. 13: Fitness Challenge

Our fitness coach, Rodney Sanders, is a retired U.S. Navy veteran and owner of Inclusive 4 Everyone, a personal training business for people of all ages and abilities. Rodney will teach kids about making healthy choices, go over how to properly do some basic stretches and exercises, and give kids some no-stress goals to work on this fall.

Nov. 10: Cooking Class at Young Chef’s Academy

Kids will learn about math, measuring, kitchen skills and more while having fun making (and eating!) pizza pull-aparts at Young Chef’s Academy in Cumming. We will also decorate cupcakes together. Kids will be put into groups with other students their age – if we have enough sign-ups we will have an elementary class and a middle school class.

Dec. 8: Christmas Family Service Project

Save the date for an opportunity to serve together during the Christmas season! Location TBD. This event will be FREE.

    Jan. 26

    Elementary: Math Challenge

Students will play age-appropriate math games, learn about geometry with glow sticks, and compete to win the Math Master prize! We will also prepare kids to participate in a spring math bowl – more details coming soon!

Middle School/High School: Budgeting and Financial Literacy

Students will learn about creating and sticking to a budget, strategies for saving and giving, and become familiar with basic information about loans, credit cards, and more.

    Feb. 9

    Elementary: Intro to Chess

Led by Zeke Farley from Christian Fine Arts of Forsyth, kids will have a chance to learn about one of the world’s oldest games, practice some strategies, and play some games against each other. Our teachers will divide the kids into groups based on their experience and skill level.

Middle School/High School: CPR and First Aid*

Lyla Watson from Rescue Ready Plus will teach students life-saving CPR and first aid skills. This class is $60 and comes with a two-year certification ideal for kids looking for jobs like babysitting or lifeguarding. This class will also be open to a limited number of adults from the Learnwell community.

    Mar. 8

    Elementary: Meet the Instruments

Kids will get the opportunity to see, hear, and play a variety of instruments from around the world. We will also talk about different types of music and explore the many ways that music impacts our lives.

Middle School/High School: Car Care Basics

Students will learn about the parts of a car, how the car works, basic maintenance information, and road safety tips. “Rob the Blonde Mechanic,” owner of Georgia Auto Solutions, will be our car care expert.

    Apr. 12

    Animal Day

Join us as we visit the Sawnee Mountain Preserve Visitor Center to learn about animals from local wildlife experts. Students will also learn about Earth Day and how they can make wise choices to help steward our environmental resources. Bring a picnic lunch!
